Silhouettes (written February 10, 2012)

Her lips are enlarged and pouty,
Harshly outlined in a dark blood red
Her eyes are lined so thickly,
one could miss the life behind
her heavily powdered lids

Her hair has been dyed, and bleached,
and dyed again…
Dark or light it encircles her face
tanned by the sun’s harsh rays
layered in “oil-free” mud
Her ears are sacrifices to piercings
She punched them in herself

Her body is bound by worldly pressures
Her stomach imprisoned
by a hungerless warden
Her feet are mangled beyond recognition
her toes forced to bear more than they were made for
for the sake of 5 more inches

Oh mirror, mirror on the wall
Is she not the fairest of them all?
But the mirror lies
Yes, It can never satisfy

The shadow on the wall
dark against the creme colored paint
and faded around the edges
shows more about her
than her painted shell of a body.
