A Mother's Farewell

She blocks out the first cries that pierce the stillness of the night
To never see the face of her sorrow, to forget -- she tries with all her might
But though the cord is cut and she never turns her face
The time they spent together, is a time she can't erase

The tiny feet and tiny hands grew stronger every year
The beating heart and thoughtful mind faced both challenges and fears
But between the sorrow of uncertainty were ten times the moments of joy
Friends and family reunions and coffee dates with boys

All were moments she'd never see, never ever know
She'd never get the privilege to be there and watch her child grow
Only 9 months she got, they were short, sweet, and true
And through the years not a day has passed that she doesn't think of you.
